History of the Boeing 717
The Boeing 717 is a short-haul commercial jet developed by McDonnell Douglas as the MD-95. After the merger with Boeing in the late 1990s, it was rebranded as the 717.
Designed for regional routes, the 717 offered efficient operations and a capacity of about 100 passengers. It was powered by two rear-mounted Rolls-Royce BR715 engines and emphasized low maintenance costs.
Though its production ended in 2006 with just 156 units built, the 717 continues to operate with carriers like Delta Air Lines and QantasLink, known for its reliability and solid performance in short-range markets.
