Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was a four-engine heavy bomber developed in the 1930s for the United States Army Air Corps. It became iconic during World War II for its ability to absorb damage and still return crews safely home.
First flown in 1935, the B-17 featured advanced defensive armament, including up to 13 .50 caliber machine guns. It gained legendary status in Europe where it flew high-altitude strategic bombing missions over Nazi-occupied territories.
Despite being superseded by newer bombers, the B-17 remains one of the most celebrated aircraft of all time. Its contributions to the Allied victory and enduring legacy in aviation history are unmatched.
